A participant's Story:

"Please Auntie, when you return from the USA, bring me shoes and a pencil." is a common phrase from one of the participants each year she encounter a volunteer from the USA. Please step up to this cause. More stories coming.

Participants' stories are numerous and sincere but please don't miss this one. Read on ... a reflection of one who accepted to share the experience with you.

"My name is Happuch" the participant continued and all she had to say was;

"I'm a paragraph and  I mean a lot, please imagine all I am and have to say and help US all"  

The Problem:

As indicated, Uganda has gone through various challenges, and the most affected population, are children, many of whom orphaned and displaced - often ending up on streets. The girl child is mostly at risk of unspeakable societal ills. It is with this background that Keren Wasike Children's Hope (KWCH) was launched to bring healing, care and protection for children in difficult circumstances. The organization takes advantage of the cultural practices of childcare that is highly community based with reasonable moral support from extended families.

Target: Keren Wasike Children's Hope (KWCH) is to initially provide support to an estimated fifty (50) children in schools and community based child- development center.
More children will be supported as resources allow to meet the arising need.

 

Human Resource: As required, KWCH has qualified staff with appropriate skills and talents. This staff includes; 2 program coordinators, 2 site managers, 2 social workers, 4 health workers, 4 custodians, 2 cook, a security guard, 2 architects, and 4 site construction & maintenance workers. Regular recruitment of personnel depends on arising need at successful levels of growth.

The personnel includes; day-to-day operating staff, Board of Directors, and an Executive Director.

The Board has designed a schedule for regular activities in management, recruitment of qualified staff & volunteers as well as eligible beneficiaries. Of great importance, KWCH organization endeavors to correct gender inequities in the prevailing culture by involving mostly women and girls in the decision making and implementation processes. At least ½ of beneficiaries are girls and more than ¾ of the staff (esp. management) are women. A training manuals for vocational skills scheme; and methods of monitoring and evaluation of the programs are in process.

 APPEAL:

Keren Wasike Children's Hope (KWCH)is established to meet the needs of the most  disadvantaged children especially those at risk of dropping out of school due to social and economic hardships. The Board members are delighted to solicit local and external funding from partners so as assist this vulnerable population. Donations can be sent directly to KWCH or processed through Benevity Causes Portal. Please make check(s) payable to Keren Wasike Children's Hope. Donations in kind, such as books, clothing, used or new sewing machines, laptops & cars, food, are acceptable as well.
